The Office of Communications or better known as Ofcom from the UK in awarding its coveted 3G licenses which is basically needed that 5 licensees all cover at least 80 percent of its population by December 31, 2007.
Ofcom basically said that they will take action against O2 if they do not meet 3G rollout obligation by the end of June, so far T-Mobile, 3, Orange and Vodafone have met this deadline whereas O2 have been holding down last place with a small 75.69 percent blanketed with its high speed data.
This also leaves the Telefonica subsidiary about 2.5 million Britons short of its obligation. Ofcom have extended O2’s deadline out to the end of June, but if they have not got to at least 80 percent then the penalty will be to reduce the term of O2’s 3G license by a mere four months.
What makes us laugh is that the license does not even expire till the end of 2021.
Phones Review Take - Basically if the customer is not getting the service they require then people should be set fixed penalties there and then, if O2 do not meet the deadline what will happen to the 3G version of the Apple iPhone?
