Power A today announced the release of the “Universal Remote Case”, designed specifically for the Apple iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 3G. The lightweight protective case features an integrated infrared (IR) transmitter. When paired with a POWER A free app available on the App Store, the case will enable consumers to use their iPhone as a fully functional universal remote to control most IR-capable devices. The protection case is available now with a price of $59.99.

The Universal Remote Case communicates with the iPhone via a free app (search the App Store for “POWER A Universal Remote”). The app enables consumers to record commands from any IR remote control. For example, to program a standard TV remote into the POWER A Universal Remote, simply point the TV remote at the iPhone, press a button on the POWER A Universal Remote App screen (i.e., “Volume Up”), and then press the corresponding “Volume Up” button on the TV remote. The app for the Universal Remote Case can also be customized to control multiple devices from a single screen (i.e., buttons from a TV, DVD, and stereo remote can be consolidated into one “virtual” remote).

LG announced today that the LG Pop (LG GD510) topped one million in worldwide sales after its European and CIS launch in October 2009. Starting next month, two new phone colors, aqua blue and lime, will be added to the Pop’s palette.

“From the start we based the LG Pop on customer needs, leading us to create a compact and intuitive touchscreen phone that wasn’t weighed down by useless features,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG Pop offers most of the benefits of a smartphone without the steep learning curve. There’s still a huge market out there for phones that do everything right out of the box.”
The LG Pop has won plaudits for its innovative use of green technology. With the optional solar battery cover, every 10 minutes the phone spends in the sun generates over two minutes of talk time or 180 minutes of standby time. Thanks to the phone’s Eco-tree and Eco-calculator applications, users can even calculate exactly how much CO2 has been cut by using the solar battery cover.
In addition to its cheerful name, the LG Pop debuted with a new user interface that included quirky icons and a bright color scheme. Changeable rear covers (available in most regions) added to the phone’s list of customizable features. Where offered, covers are available in fluorescent shades of pink, green and orange, peanut-patterned black and silver, an XO pattern and glossy white.

It appears that Apple has made another patent application with the US patent office, and this time it’s for what is called “Camera as Input Interface,” which would deliver the ability for the iPhone camera to be used for other features such as forwarding or rewinding voicemail reports apple insider.
Apparently the iPhone camera would detect the direction of a finger swipe and the iPhone accelerometer could be used to taps made on the iPhone thus enabling control of the iPhone whilst on a call with the need to remove the iPhone from the ear.
The “Camera as Input Interface” was apparently originally file for back on the 21st of August 2008 and is credited to Chad Seguin, Michael Lee and Justin Gregg.
Furthermore other than controlling the functions of voicemail review without taking the device from the ear, a user may navigate a doc on the display by guiding a finger over the camera lens. So what do you think, would you like to see this feature in the next generation iPhone?
